A:   Mum, can you drive me to school tomorrow? My scooter is broken.

B:   Can’t you get the school bus, as usual?

A:   The school bus driver is sick, so I need to get to school another way.

B:   All right, we’ll leave tomorrow at 7.00. Don’t be late!

2   Why is Trevor tired?

A:   Hey Trevor, are you going to the football practice this evening.

B:   I’m not sure, I’m really tired!

A:   Maybe it’s because you went to Tina’s party last night…

B:   Actually I didn’t. My brother had two tickets to see our favorite band so we went, but it finished after midnight.

A:   Oh, I see…

3   Which type of film does Angela enjoy?

A:   Do you want to go and see that new horror film?

B:   I saw that yesterday. It was too scary, but it had some funny scenes as well. I laughed a bit. Let’s go and see ‘Wild Animals’ instead.

A:   Really? You don’t like documentaries on wild animals!

B:   Well, they’re better than horrors!

4   Where will the boy and the girl meet tomorrow?

A:   Shall we go to the swimming pool together?

B:   Sure, let’s take the bus at 5.

A:   Well, actually my father said he can drive us there today. He needs to go into town anyway. We can come and pick you up from home at around ten past five.

B:   Sounds great. See you later, then.

A:   So which of these three do you like best?

B:   Well, I really like the striped one but it’s too big for me.

A:   That’s a shame. They haven’t got any white T-shirts. How about this yellow one here?

B:   OK, good idea. I’ll get that one for a change.

Right everyone. Just some information on The Arts Centre that is open from July to September. You will leave at half past nine on the 17th and get there in about half an hour. During the week you will spend there, you will have several activities to choose from: students can do painting or drawing from 8 a.m. to midday, while after lunch those who are interested can try dancing or photography. The courses are available for students aged 11 to 15, but remember your parents have to fill in a form where they agree to let you do the courses.

During the week at the Arts Centre you will also be able to take part in weekend activities: Unfortunately we won’t be able to take you to the swimming pool as we did last year but we will go on a trip to London and visit museums as well. The cost of the week, which includes accommodation and meals, is 139 pounds, so please remember to bring the money by Thursday.

A:   Hi Adam. Jessie told me you’ve decided to learn how to cook. How is the course you’re doing?

B:   Well, it was my mother who told me to do it. At first I thought it wouldn’t be so interesting as I don’t want to be a chef like her. But half an hour after the class started, I realised it was a great opportunity: you know how I love good food, so making dishes can be great fun.

A:   I’m sure it was great way to spend the day.

B:   It was! And being in a kitchen from morning to evening was a very interesting experience. After the first half hour when the teacher told us what to use, it took me only three hours to make a very special meal with very simple foods such as cheese, vegetables and eggs. When I got back in the evening I was really happy about the results.

A:   Was the kitchen large?

B:   Very large. There were 14 of us, but we had enough space to work.

A:   So are you going to the course on desserts next month?

B:   I’d love to, but I don’t think I’ll have enough time because next month I have a lot of tests. Anyway I’d like to keep working in the kitchen by myself. I’d like to try to make a meal for my vegetarian grandmother. She really loves trying new dishes so I’ll see what I can do: I have an interesting cookbook with a lot of wonderful vegetable dishes!

A:   Sounds great! I hope you’ll invite me too.

16   You will hear a boy and a girl talking about a concert. What do they agree about?

A:   Are you going to the ‘Shooting Stars’ concert tomorrow? I love them!

B:   I’m not sure. I think the tickets are too expensive.

A:   I think the price is OK, actually. I went to the cinema last weekend and that cost nine pounds. And seeing a band live on stage is much more fun!

B:   Well, I’ll think about it. After all they’re my favourite band.

17   You will hear a boy talking about his teacher. Where is the teacher from?

This year we have a new French teacher. He’s really cool. He told us he studied in France, but he was born in Djibouti, which is an African country on the Red Sea. His first job was as a tour guide for a Canadian travel company. But last year he decided to do something more useful for children, so he chose to become a teacher.

A:   Have you finished your Maths homework, Lisa?

B:   Yes, thanks for helping me, Dad. I still have to do my Science homework, but I don’t think it will take too long.

A:   So maybe we can go cycling in the park in half an hour?

B:   Mmm, I don’t know, Dad. I’ve got a French test tomorrow but I don’t understand some words. Can you tell me what they mean?

A:   I can try. Let me see.

19   You will hear two friends planning the weekend. What are they going to do?

A:   I can’t wait to get away from the city this weekend!

B:   I know. I need some fresh air. Now, don’t forget to pack a scarf. It gets really cold when you’re at the top.

A:   True, but you get a great view of the sea from high up there.

B:   Oh, and remember your sunglasses too. When it’s sunny it’s difficult to see with all the snow.

20   You will hear two friends talking about a school play. What does Jack think about it?

A:   Hey Jack, did you like the play we saw this morning?

B:   Well, I thought it would be more boring, but I actually enjoyed seeing our classmates take part.

A:   Oh, yes, that was fun, but maybe a few of them should have learnt their part better.

B:   I know, but there was very little time: they only had two weeks to get ready for the play!

Dad:   Sure. What are your classmates doing?

Kevin:   Well, my best friend Jason has the most interesting project: he has to study spiders. You know I love spiders.

Dad:   How about Amanda? I know she really likes horse riding. Is she going to write about horses?

Kevin:   No, actually she chose penguins because her father took some photos when he was in Antactica. And Lenny has already finished his project on fish.

Dad:   Is Phil doing his research on lions? I know he loves big cats.

Kevin:   Yes, he is. And Sally wants to study bees: she wants to tell us how they make honey.
