1 Where are they meeting?
A: Are you still coming to the cinema tonight?
B: Yes, shall we meet in the new coffee shop first?
A: I’m not sure. I went there yesterday.
B: We could meet in front of the library?
A: No, the coffee shop is a better idea.
2 What time does the match start?
A: Hurry up, Jane! We’ll be late for the basketball match!
B: Don’t worry, Dad, it doesn’t start until 10 o’clock.
A: Yes, I know. But the bus leaves at twenty to ten and it’s already half past nine!
3 What’s the man’s job?
A: Jim’s a nice guy, isn’t he? I met him when I was at the doctor’s last week.
B: Yes, he was a teacher at my son’s school, you know.
A: Really? Isn’t he a police officer? I’m sure he is.
B: He is now, but before that he taught English.
4 What did the boy lose?
A: Hello, can I help you? You don’t look very happy.
B: I put my camera next to the radio over there, and now I can’t find it.
A: Oh dear, that’s a shame. Have you got a mobile phone? You can take photos with that instead?
5 What does she choose?
A: So, Shirley, what are you having to eat?
B: Well, I quite like meat, and I love vegetables, so I’m not sure.
A: Why not have a pizza which has got both on it?
B: Yeah, I’ll do that. It’s the easiest thing to order.

Good morning boys and girls. Let’s have a look at the hotel information for our trip to Edinburgh. When we arrive in town, we’ll go straight to St Andrew Square, which is 5 minutes’ walk from the railway station and very close to our hotel, the Dork, which is in George Street. Tell your parents that the price for a double room is 120 pounds a night, and a single room is 90 pounds a night. So, if you’re sharing a room, the price is 60 pounds a night.
The hotel is very big, there are 100 bedrooms, but we only need 20, possibly on the same floor.
It’s a very nice hotel with a lot of facilities, such as a gym, a sauna and even a swimming pool, but we won’t have time for any of those, we’ve got a very busy schedule!
So, did you get the address right? It’s George Street, and the hotel is opposite the Post Office.

A: Hello, can I help you?
B: Ah, yes please. I’m looking for a present for my mum. It’s her birthday next week.
A: Let me see. Ah, here’s a very lovely painting. What do you think?
B: I really like the colour but it’s too expensive for me. What else have you got?
A: I know, how about his old guitar: you can’t play it anymore, but it would look very good on the wall in your living room?
B: My mum already has a guitar. She likes old things, you know, like stuff from the past. She thinks modern furniture is horrible!
A: Then this Italian glass lamp is the perfect gift! I found it in a shop in Spain last year. It’s fifty years old and very special. It still works too.
B: Oh yes. The painting was very beautiful, but this table lamp is the best for Mum!
A: Fine. So, that’s thirty pounds.
B: Oh, I haven’t got the money now. Can you keep the lamp until next week? I’ll ask my dad if he can come with me and get it next Tuesday after school.
A: No problem, I’ll see you next Tuesday.

16 You will hear a boy talking to a shop assistant. What is he doing?
A: Good morning, how can I help you?
B: Actually, I’m just waiting with my baby sister: my grandfather’s trying on a pair of trousers.
A: Oh, yes, he’s in the changing room right now. What a pretty sister you have! She looks like you a lot!
B: Thanks…
17 You will hear a person asking for help. What’s the problem?
A: Excuse me, where can I buy a ticket? This machine isn’t working and the bus will be here in a minute…
B: Let me see… you need to select the number of tickets you want to buy first and then put the money in.
A: Oh, that’s why I couldn’t put the coin in. Thanks for helping me, Madame.
18 You will hear a person asking for directions. What’s the weather like?
A: Excuse me, I’m afraid I’m lost. Do you know where this sushi restaurant is?
B: I think it’s the one behind the hospital. But it’s at least five minutes from here and if you walk, you’ll get wet.
A: Oh, right. I don’t even have an umbrella…
B: Don’t worry: if you take the underground and get off at the next stop, you’ll be right in front of it.
19 You will hear two friends talking about a trip. Where are they meeting up?
A: Are you ready for tomorrow’s trip to London?
B: Sure. I’ve packed the sandwiches and the drinks. Don’t forget the camera. Last time we were already on the coach when you realised you had left it at home…
A: Don’t worry, Adam. See you tomorrow at the gate. The coach will be there at 7,30.

Karen: Of course I haven’t! It’s Sunday, and you know my sister always goes ice skating on Sundays!
Lisa: Oh yes. I suppose I’ll have to see her tomorrow then.
Karen: What? On Monday? No, she’s joined a gym and she goes there every week.
Lisa: How about Tuesday? Do you think she’ll be free then?
Karen: Maybe. But she usually goes to play tennis on Tuesdays.
Lisa: Oh yeah. And on Wednesday she has her painting class.
Karen: No, painting is now on Thursday. But you won’t see her Wednesday because we’re all going out to a restaurant for my dad’s birthday.
Lisa: OK, I’ll wait until Friday!
Karen: Umm, no, football is on Friday.
Lisa: What? She can’t even play football!
Karen: Yeah, I know. But she likes to go and watch. Perhaps you can try and see her next week instead?
